Deep dish pizza

★Ingredients

1 cup warm water (110 to 115 degrees F)

1 package (0.25 ounce) active dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup cornmeal

1/4 cup olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

1 pound Italian sausage, crumbled and cooked

1 cup pizza sauce

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Optional toppings: sliced pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms

★Instructions

In a large bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until dough forms.

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar and let stand for 5 minutes, until foamy.

Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Punch dough down and press into a greased 9-inch deep dish pie plate or cake pan, covering the bottom and up the sides.

Layer cooked sausage over the dough. Spread pizza sauce evenly over the sausage. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and Parmesan cheese. Add any additional toppings as desired.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
