★Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1 egg

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 large onions, thinly sliced

2 cups beef broth

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 bay leaf

Sliced French bread or cooked pasta, for serving

Shredded Gruyere or Swiss cheese, for topping

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.

In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined. Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

Place the caramelized onions in the bottom of the slow cooker.

In the same skillet, brown the meatballs on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side. Transfer the browned meatballs to the slow cooker on top of the onions.
