Tennessee Onions

★Ingredients

3-4 large Vidalia or sweet onions

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese as an alternative)

1/4 cup unsalted butter

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

★Instructis

  • Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Separate the rings.
  1. Assemble the Dish:
  • In a large oven-safe baking dish, arrange the onion rings in a single layer, slightly overlapping them.
  • Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper evenly over the onions.
  1. Add Cheese:
  • Evenly distribute the shredded mozzarella, Parmesan, and Gruyère (or Swiss) cheeses over the onion rings.
  1. Add Cream and Butter:
  • Pour the heavy cream over the top of the onions and cheese.
  • Cut the butter into small pieces and distribute them evenly over the top.
  1. Bake:
  • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the onions are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  1. Garnish and Serve:
  • Once done, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool slightly.
  • Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
