★Ingredients
2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup (57g) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1 cup (100g) grated cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (such as chives, parsley, or thyme) or 1 tablespoon dried herbs
3/4 cup (180ml) milk (plus extra for brushing)
1 large egg
Quick and delicious chocolate fudge
★Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder (if using), and black pepper. - Cut in the Butter:
Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. - Add Cheese and Herbs:
Stir in the grated cheese and chopped herbs until evenly distributed. - Combine Wet Ingredients:
In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk mixture. - Form the Dough:
Gently stir the mixture with a fork until a soft dough forms. Be careful not to overmix. - Shape the Scones:
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it gently a few times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a round about 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick. Use a round cutter (about 2.5 inches/6 cm in diameter) to cut out scones, gently re-rolling the dough as necessary. Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet. - Brush with Milk:
Brush the tops of the scones with a little milk for a golden finish. - Bake:
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. - Cool and Serve:
Allow the scones to cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving warm. They are delicious on their own or with a pat of butter.
Enjoy!
