★Ingredients

For the mashed potatoes:

1 kg (2 lbs) potatoes, peeled and diced

500g (1 lb) ground beef (or any meat of your choice)

2-3 garlic cloves, minced

1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 onion, finely chopped

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: herbs like thyme, oregano, or parsley

For the cheese topping:

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or any cheese you prefer)

★Instructions

  1. Prepare the mashed potatoes:

Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15-20 minutes).

Drain and mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.

  1. Cook the meat layer:

In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.

Add chopped onion and garlic, and cook until softened.

Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, paprika, salt, pepper, and herbs (if using). Simmer for 10-15 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  1. Assemble the casserole:

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

In a greased baking dish, spread a layer of mashed potatoes on the bottom.

Add a layer of the cooked meat mixture on top.

Repeat with another layer of mashed potatoes, followed by a final layer of meat.

Top with a generous layer of shredded cheese.

  1. Bake:

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown on top.

  1. Serve:

Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
