FRIED POTATOES AND ONIONS

★Ingredients

4 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced

3 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter

Salt and pepper to taste

1 large onion, thinly sliced

Optional: garlic powder, paprika, or other seasonings of your choice

★Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
  • Peel and thinly slice the potatoes. Try to keep the slices uniform for even cooking.
  • Peel and thinly slice the onion.
  1. Heat the Oil:
  • In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil or butter over medium heat. Ensure the oil is hot before adding the potatoes to prevent sticking.
  1. Cook the Potatoes:
  • Add the potato slices to the skillet in a single layer. Fry them for about 5-7 minutes without stirring, allowing them to develop a golden brown crust on one side.
  1. Add the Onions:
  • Add the sliced onions to the skillet with the potatoes. Stir to combine.
  1. Season and Cook Together:
  • Season with salt, pepper, and any other desired spices like garlic powder or paprika. Stir occasionally, allowing the potatoes and onions to cook until they are tender and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Stir gently to avoid breaking the potatoes too much.
  1. Serve:
  • Once the potatoes and onions are cooked through and nicely browned, remove them from the skillet. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Tips:

  • For extra crispiness, you can increase the heat slightly towards the end of cooking.
  • If you prefer softer potatoes, you can cover the skillet with a lid for part of the cooking time to steam them a bit.
