★Ingredients
For the Sloppy Joe Filling:
1 pound ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon chili powder
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Texas Toast:
8 slices of Texas toast bread (thick-cut bread)
4 tablespoons butter, softened
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

★Instructions
- Prepare the Sloppy Joe Filling:
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, and chili powder to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Prepare the Texas Toast:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of Texas toast bread.
- Sprinkle garlic powder evenly over the buttered sides of the bread. If using, sprinkle dried parsley for added flavor and color.
- Place the slices on a baking sheet, buttered side up, and bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or until the bread is golden and toasted.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the bread during the last 2 minutes of baking to melt the cheese.
- Assemble the Texas Toast Sloppy Joes:
- Spoon the sloppy joe filling generously over a slice of Texas toast.
- Top with another slice of Texas toast to create a sandwich.
