★Ingredients
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup warm water (about 110°F/45°C)
1/4 cup sugar
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
★Instructions
- Activate the Yeast:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water.
- Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until it becomes frothy.
- Mix the Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the yeast mixture, oil, and egg.
- Mix until the dough comes together.
- Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface.
- Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning it once to grease the top.
- Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Dough:
- Punch down the dough to release the air.
- Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a loaf.
- Second Rise:
- Place the shaped dough into a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- Cover again with the kitchen towel and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes, until it has risen slightly over the top of the pan.
- Bake the Bread:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the bread for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool the Bread:
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
- Turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Enjoy!
