★Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 and 3/4 cups buttermilk

1 teaspoon baking soda

★Instructions

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in most of the buttermilk.

Using your hands or a wooden spoon, mix the ingredients together until a soft dough forms, adding more buttermilk if necessary.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it until it comes together into a round loaf, about 1 minute.

Place the loaf onto the prepared baking sheet and using a sharp knife, score a deep cross into the top of the dough.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 400°F (200°C) and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving. Enjoy your homemade Irish soda bread!
